Physics is highly diversified field within the wider group of natural sciences and it is this broad spectrum that, more often than not, discourages students from pursuing the subject at tertiary level because they feel it is too indulging and therefore complicated and difficult. This book focuses on the principles of the foundation courses that enables the student to acquire a general knowledge in the field and also establish a solid base for further studies in physics. The book is based on first year university lecture materials that have been modified and improved over the years, and is designed to make the study of physics at this level more consistent and motivating. Considerable attention is given to sample problems and guides to their solutions. These provides the student with the opportunity to practise how to apply theoretical knowledge in solving problems.
