It is felt that a simple primer on basic immunogenetics for postgraduates in biological science and medicine would be useful and fill a gap in the existing spectrum of Indian textbooks. There have been many exciting developments in immunogenetics in the last two decades which have made major impact on human health. Students need to be conversant with these advances in order to understand the immunologic diseases and to use the rapidly emerging methods of diagnosis and therapy that are based on immunologic approaches.
