First edition of the Common Problems in Pediatric Surgery was published in 1994. Rapid advances in the knowledge and management of various diseases in the children compelled us to revise the manuscript. The whole text has been rewritten, condensed and edited wherever necessary. Many new chapters have been added. Large number of photographs and illustrations provides the visual approach towards diagnosis and management. The book contains more than 400 illustrations. The general approach towards the second edition remains the same. The emphasis is on the practical aspect of the management, rather than lengthy theoretical discussions. The book is planned in such a way that it acts as a bridge between a small hand book and extensively written large treatise. The book is divided in three sections. First section contains general information about physiology, physiological alterations, metabolic disorders, preoperative and postoperative management, congenital malformations and transport, in the neonates and children The second section relates to the surgical problems of neonates, while the third section contains the common problems of infant and children. Operative steps and illustrations have been added for the benefit of surgeons in the periphery, whose patients have no access to tertiary care centers.
